We have a visitor from Japan staying with us at the moment, only for a short stay but definitely worth it as she is now at University and really deserved a break. She is also one of my nieces and am very happy to have her visit. I have also realised that my husband’s Japanese is also improving when speaking with her. However, I also realised that it is true that if languages learnt are not used often then the capability to speak the foreign language will drop down quickly. If you get the chance, it would be a good idea to invite a Japanese visitor to stay with you under the homestay program.  What a great way to try out and keep alive your Japanese conversation skills and to exchange some English as well.

Workshop and Kōryū-kai (gathering):

I am now planning the next Japanese green tea (Matcha) workshop. Matcha is the most famous and popular tea from Japan; however, there is not only Matcha but quite a variety of different tea types produced in Japan. This workshop will introduce several major types of green tea and give you insights into its healing qualities, tradition and simplicity. Gain further knowledge, learn more Japanese and discover how to prepare such a refreshing drink. Let’s enjoy Green tea.

After the workshop, please take part in the gathering (Kōryū-kai) with a friendly chat and some more tea.

I look forward to you joining in for the Matcha workshop and Kōryū-kai.

News corner:

Japanese Film Festival 2019 in Cairns

This annual event will be held in November. It will include an animated film that everyone can enjoy, a heart-warming slice-of-life’s reflection on family relationships and a meditative drama on the art of the Japanese tea ceremony. The film titled “Every Day a Good Day” is the one that I have already read the book and am excited to see it in Movie format and would like to see it, maybe at this festival. Check out the movies timetable and see if you can attend, and then book it in your schedule. Unfortunately, the anime is English dubbed and not Japanese dub with English subs, anyway it still is Anime and will be great to see some new movies straight out of Japan.

Place:                Event Cinemas Smithfield, Smithfield Shopping Centre

Fee:                   Free, but limited seats so better to arrive 30 minutes prior to screening
